Ground Control Course

Course Description:

The Law Enforcement Ground Control Training course equips officers with the essential skills and knowledge required to effectively manage confrontations and maintain control in ground-based encounters. Designed to meet the dynamic demands of modern policing, this comprehensive training program focuses on practical techniques and tactical strategies tailored for law enforcement scenarios.

Throughout the course, participants will learn:

  • Ground Control Techniques: Master fundamental grappling, positioning, and restraint techniques to safely and effectively control subjects during ground engagements.
  • Defensive Tactics: Develop proficiency in defensive maneuvers to neutralize threats and protect oneself and others in high-stress situations.
  • Arrest and Control Procedures: Gain insight into proper arrest procedures and learn how to safely apprehend and control resistant individuals while minimizing risk.
  • De-escalation Strategies: Explore communication and conflict resolution techniques to defuse tense situations and prevent escalation to physical confrontation whenever possible.
  • Weapon Retention: Learn strategies for maintaining control of firearms and other defensive tools during close-quarters encounters to ensure officer safety.
  • Scenario-Based Training: Engage in realistic scenario simulations to apply learned skills in dynamic, real-world scenarios under simulated stress conditions.
  • Team Tactics: Develop teamwork and coordination skills necessary for effective ground control operations, including techniques for assisting fellow officers and establishing team-based control over multiple subjects.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the confidence, competence, and critical decision-making skills needed to navigate ground-based encounters safely and effectively, enhancing officer safety and public trust in law enforcement.

Course Objectives:

1. Wall Defense and Attack:

Techniques for defending against attacks near walls or using walls strategically for offensive maneuvers.

2. Take Downs:

Methods for bringing an opponent to the ground from a standing position, often used to gain control or scoring points in combat sports.

3. Ground Control:

Strategies and techniques for maintaining dominance and control over an opponent while on the ground, crucial in grappling and mixed martial arts.

4. Ground Control Defense:

Defensive tactics employed to prevent an opponent from gaining control or submission while on the ground, focusing on escaping disadvantageous positions.

5. Team Ground Control:

Coordination and communication strategies among teammates to establish and maintain control over opponents, commonly seen in team-based combat sports like wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

6. Weapon Retention:

Techniques for maintaining control of a weapon in combat situations, emphasizing security and preventing disarmament.
